Unit 1: Tier-I
Ability to understand correct English, basic comprehension and writing ability.
Unit 2: Tier-II (Paper-I, Section II-A)
Vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms and their usage; spot the error, fill in the blanks, homonyms, spellings, idioms and phrases, one-word substitution, improvement of sentences, active/passive voice, direct/indirect narration, shuffling of sentence parts and sentences, cloze passage, comprehension passages (one simple passage from a book or story and two on current affairs from a report or editorial).
